PNGRFL Board is very concerned about the
outburst made on EMTV and National Newspaper recently by Pat Siwi
the president of Goroka Rugby League, which is not in the best
interest of Rugby League in the country. Chief Executive Officer of
PNGRFL mr Jeff Wade is employed by PNGRFL and any issues concerning
him should be channeled to the Board of PNGRFL and not through the
media.
The allegations made by Mr Siwi against Mr Wade
were not true, inaccurate and misleading. These allegations were
defamatory to Mr Wade. Mr Wade opted to deal with the issue within
the PNGRFL constitution and not the courts. Pat’s personal attack on
CEO of PNGRFL and PNGNRL administration does not do any good to the
code. Mr Siwi, being an experienced league administrator knows the
channels of communication to follow and there is no excuse.
Pat knows he has no authority to speak for
Bintangor Lahanis, and being president of Goroka League does not
give him leverage to express such concern to the media.
PNGRFL Board believes his outburst in the media
has brought about nothing good, but the game of Rugby League into
disrepute and adversely prejudiced the game. We have a lot of people
putting in a great deal of effort to take the game to new heights,
and this must be respected and supported. Therefore the PNGRFL Board
has fined Mr Siwi K1000- and strongly warned him to refrain from
adverse comments in the media.

RUGBY LEAGUE WORLD CUP GAME TO BE PLAYED IN PNG?!
The Rugby League World Cup 08 organising committee has promised to
look at a
proposal from PNG to host one of the Kumul games here in PNG.
To do so, PNG must have an international standard stadium that can
hold a
minimum of 15000 people. The stadium must also have the facilities
for the
World Cup television provider to set up and use its equipment. This
means
screens for video referee decisions and a place to keep all the
technical
equipment.
At present PNG does not have such a venue. However, there are three
possible
sites. The present Lloyd Robson Oval. This has been the venue for
International Rugby League, Rugby Union and Soccer games. However it
needs
another 7000 people capacity. This would require stands or earth
mounds to
be constructed at the ground.
The second site is Sir Hubert Murray stadium. This has the capacity
to hold
the crowd if earth mounds are constructed higher than the existing
outer
ground is now. There is also the issue of Land owner group giving
permission
to use and renovate the stadium. Sir John Guise stadium is the third
option.
This also requires renovations to upgrade the facility.
The ideal solution is to have a stadium built that can host
international
games of Rugby League, Rugby Union and soccer. The governing bodies
of these
sports will be meeting to discuss this concept of an International
Football
Stadium for the three sports to use. For a venue to be upgraded
requires
political support as well. In Australia, State and local level
governments,
are putting in bids for their towns and cities to host world cup
games. Perth
in Western Australia is one such city bidding for a game to be
played there.
The world cup committee is looking at playing England vs PNG in
Perth!. Why
not have PNG vs England or Australia or New Zealand played in PNG?!
We need politicians and businesses to commit to developing a site
now! RLWC
organising committee are deciding on venues within the next month.
PNG needs
to be able to show we have a venue which we will be upgrading to
world
standards. The commitment from politicians and business
organisations must
be made now. If PNG wants a Rugby League World Cup game played here
we need
to show our commitment now!
Lets get a World Cup Rugby League Game played in PNG!

Bulldogs growl to strong for Bombers |
The Brian Bell Bulldogs held of a strong second half surge by
the LBC Bombers to register a narrow 24-20 victory at the Lloyd
Robson oval in Port Moresby yesterday.
The Bulldogs lead 10-0 at halftime befor the Bombers stage a four try
second half onslaught that tied the score 20-20 at one stage before
Bulldogs Joshua Poria broke the dead lock. Bulldogs prop Aaron Mulanga
open the scoring of a bomb shortly after kickoff then replacement
forward Kelly Tambua provided a clever offload to winger Joshua
Lapas runaway try seconds befor half time. In between both team fail
to mount any pressure by continuously handing over possession and
taking bad kick options. Bombers had a perfact start to the second
half when center Leonard straightend onto a short Randall Kaupa pass
close to the line to trail 4-10. Center kevin Frank strong tackle on
Sape Jopi jolted the ball free on the 47th minute resulting in Joes
try few minutes later. The Bombers paid dearly for gambling on a
short kickoff as Charles Onguglo trapped the ball with his foot

Bombers vow to make amends |
LAE Builders and Contractors (LBC) Bombers have vowed to restore
their lost pride and register on the score board when they take
Agmark Gurias this Sunday in Lae rugby league oval.
The Bombers have so far lost their last two matches and did not want
to go empty hand this Sunday in front of their rhetoric supporters.
Coach Boga Tau, despite the two losts, has hope and confidence for
his players and that is to start fresh this weekend and take a cool
breather.
Tau said yesterday this weekend game between Gurias was very
important for them to restore the lost pride and bring some hopes
back in the rugby fans -dominated city of Lae.
Tau said he had made four changes in the line -up that took
Bintargor Lahanis last Sunday in Goroka.
Toyota Enga Mioks reject utility five-eight Andrew Sam is among the
new faces whom would coordinate the backline well with PNG Kumuls
trio Nime Kapo and Eki Ene.
Other new faces called-up were included Magani's hit man Anton Ken,
Jape Jopi and Noel Waso who would give more power in the forward
pack.
Youngster Max Romanong who played five-eight in the last two games
would be at the bench with other injured players Jonah Mackey,
Steven Kua, Otmar Leonard and Jackson Undi.
Tau said the line-up looked promising having some bunched of
experienced SP Cup players like Sam, Ene, Kapo to steer the backline
while the forward pack has hardworking second rower Jerry Kutz,
Cedric Belo, Dusty Mockley and captain John Milba.
"This weekend game will be our first win. I expect the boys to play
according to the game plan to the full 80 minutes of the game.
"The preparation was okay after the game against Lahanis last Sunday
where few mistakes were rectified. This is our home ground and am
sure we will not let our supporters down this Sunday", Tau added.
The likely line- up is: Benson Joel, Samson Ninge, Ene, Russ Kaupa
Jr, Glenn Nami, Sam, Kapo, Tony Dai, Andrew Baine, Donald Akisaro,
Kutz, Noel Waso and Milba. Reserves are: Yapa Kapu, Belo, Jopi, Ken,
Mockley and Titus Maima.
The technical officials: Tau (coach), Robert Kua (trainer), Joseph
Sambiru (team doctor) and Joe Katsir (team manager).

Bombers make four changes to line-up |
LAE Builders & Contactors Bombers have made four changes to
their line-up for this Sunday’s clash against Bintangor Lahanis in
Goroka.
Crowd pleaser half-back and PNG Kumul Nime Kapo who was away and
could not take to the field last Sunday was called into the team.
And he should be instrumental in restoring some lost pride to the
side which suffered a shocking 12-30 loss to Pagani Warriors in Lae
last Sunday.
Kapo is expected to use his experience with assistance of his fellow
Kumuls Eki Ene for Bombers to make the scoring raids.
Bombers coach Boga Tau released the team list yesterday saying that
only four changes were made in the line-up for the game against
Lahanis this Sunday.
Tau said that fullback Samson Ninge was shifted to wing position
while utility Benson Joel, who played wing, was tasked to look after
the Bombers terrority at fullback.
Other changes were centre Glenn Nami being replaced by Magani
veteran Leonard Otmar, and Steven Kua, who played half back last
Sunday, going on the bench while Kapo takes the charges at half.
Bombers veteran second rower Donald Akisaro was called into the team
to give more strength to hit man Jerry Kutz, Jonah Mackey and
captain John Milba at the forward pack.
Bombers big man Dusty Mockley will be rested this Sunday to fully
recover from injuries while the rest of the players from last week’s
lineup have been retained.
Tau said the Bombers loss to Warriors in the first game was a
wake-up call and he had overhauled the team, adding they are now
ready to meet Lahanis in their home ground in Goroka.
“We will be very competitive and tough. The first game loss is an
eye-opener and we would not let any obstacle obstruct us,” said Tau.
The likely Bombers line-up: Joel, Ninge, Otmar, Ene, Jr Kaupa, Kapo,
Tony Dai, Baine, Akisaro, Jackson Undi, Kutz and Milba. The
inter-change players are Yapa Kupu,Cedric Belo,Tatius Maima and
Mackey.

Coach and referees clinics begins |
Tha annual ARL/PNGRFL coach and referees clinics begins in Port Moresby on
Friday. Adrian Lam, Danny Holmes and Fred Lucas from Australia are running
the clinics in four centres over the next two weeks.
The courses are open to registered coaches and referees in affiliated
leagues throughout PNG. People who attended the courses last year should
attend again this year so they can be assessed for their ARL certificates.
The courses are organised by PNGRFL and ARL to ensure coaches and referees
throughout the country are kept up to date with the latest developments in
coaching and refereeing around the Rugby League World. There should be no
excuse for PNG not having properly qualified coaches and referees
officiating games in PNG.
The courses have been provided at considerable expense and preparaation time
by Australian Rugby league and PNG Rugby League. Registered coaches and
referees should not miss the opportunity to attend these valuable courses.
The courses will be at the following venues on the dates listed below.

Rugby League registration deadline fast approaching.. |
March 31st is the deadline for player registration for all affiliated
Leagues around PNG.
At present we have only 10% of players registered compared to last
season. If players are not registered they are not covered by Insurance
and they are not entitled to play in any PNGRFL sanctioned competitions.
Leagues face disciplinary action if they do not meet affiliation
requirements by March 31st. One of those requirements is to have all
players registered in clubs affiliated to the respective leagues.
There are 13 Affiliated Leagues in the Highlands, 3 in southern zone, 3
in Northern zone and there are no affiliated leagues in the Islands.Last
season we had 41 affiliated Leagues.
Prospective leagues and players need to get their acts together if they
want to participate in PNGRFL Sanctioned Competitions.
There are a number of representative games this season especially for
the U/19s and affiliated premier clubs. Again players must be registered
and leagues affiliated before they can take part in any competition
Some leagues have begun pre season competitions already and all the
players in these competitions must be registered before taking the
field. Players are taking a great risk playing in games with
unregistered players. If anything happens in a game where players are
unregistered, insurance will not be paid. All players must be registered
for insurance purposes.
PNGRFL calls on all leagues to really work hard on their respective
clubs and players to make sure the players meet the deadline of March
31st. Once leagues have met the requirements they can enjoy the 2007
Rugby League season with all its representative games as well.2007
promises to be a big year for Rugby League.
